Catalog Description
Physical, educational, visual design and language features and standards that should be found in the course books; the appropriateness of the coursebook contents for the curriculum; the analysis of the content of some of the coursebooks in terms of content, language, suitability for student level, format, attractiveness, contribution to meaningful learning, ease of use in teaching, etc.
Course Objectives
This course aims to recognize basic concepts in the design of English textbooks and to teach how to analyze English language textbooks regarding their content and design.

Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of this class, students will be able to:
1) Recognize basic concepts and standards used in the design of English language teaching textbooks
2) Conceptualize the criteria used in the analysis of English language textbooks
3) Analyze current English language textbooks in terms of their language teaching content and design
4) Evaluate the effectiveness of textbooks in the teaching of English language.
5) Practice a design of a sample unit for a language teaching textbook considering the current language teaching settings in Turkey and basic principles of language teaching and learning.
