This course is designed to provide an understanding of contemporary Balkan politics and the major regional problems.

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. Describe main historical developments in the Balkans 
2. Analyze the legacy of the Ottomans in the Balkans
3. Compare political, social and economic developments in the Balkan region
4. Critique the effects of nationalism in the region 
5. Evaluate the international community’s policy towards the region before, during and after the Balkan wars 
6. Recite the Balkan states endeavors towards becoming members of the EU
