Mert Burkay Çöteli, PhD, earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and his Doctorate in Information Systems from Middle East Technical University (METU). His doctoral research, titled "Spherical harmonics-based acoustic scene analysis for object-based audio," earned him the METU 2021 Best PhD Thesis award. With over 15 years of experience in the defense industry, primarily at ASELSAN Inc., where he served as a Lead Engineer for stabilized naval gun systems and algorithm development , Dr. Çöteli has successfully bridged the gap between academia and industry. He has led R&D for AI-powered medical imaging systems, advanced defense technologies, including anti-drone embedded systems , and immersive audio projects. His academic contributions include high-impact journal papers, several granted patents in joint source localization and separation , and standardized AI-driven audio contributions through his role as an official representative for the MPAI initiative. He is currently an Assistant Professor at TED University.
