Catalog Description
Culture and language. Theories of culture. The relationship between culture and language. Cultural semiotics and linguistic signs. Intercultural communication and language. Applied intercultural communication in English as a foreign language.
Course Objectives

This course aims to present the intricate relationship between language and culture. It introduces the concepts of culture along with basic theories of culture. The course further aims to inform students about the aspects of semiotics and its relevance to the language. The role of language and culture in communication is also explored. The intercultural communication and the effect of language on this communication process is additionally aimed to be discussed in line with its implementation in EFL classrooms.
