This course aims to introduce students the psychological aspects of emotion in relation to major theories and methods. The content of the course is designed to familiarize students with the psychological bases of emotion. It introduces different theoretical perspectives on emotion, methodological techniques used in emotion research, physiological bases of emotions, emotion regulation, and overview of various emotions (fear and anxiety; disgust and anger; love and happiness; self-conscious emotions; and social comparison-based emotions).
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define the major theoretical explanations of emotion and the scientific methods to study emotion.
- Identify the physiological bases of emotion.
- Apply their knowledge to understand the causes and consequences of various emotions they experience in daily life
- Differentiate the evolutionary and cultural perspectives on emotion
- Formulate novel research questions to understand the emotions (i.e. fear and anxiety; disgust and anger; love and happiness; self-conscious emotions; and social comparison-based emotions)
