Catalog Description
Role of financial institutions. Interpreting financial statements. Cash flow statement. Financial ratios. Time value of money. The required rate of return. Bond valuation. Stock valuation. Risk and return.
Course Objectives
The main objective of this course is to build a foundation that will prepare students to interpret financial statements and evaluate the financial performance of firms using financial ratios and value basic financial instruments. In addition, the course introduces the time value of money, risk, and return concepts as a basis for the valuation and financial decision-making process.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Prepare financial statements for an incorporated organization to meet legal requirements and business objectives,
- Analyse financial statements of an incorporated organization to achieve performance metrics,
- Explain the key elements of the financial decisions and their links to the financial system,
- Apply time value of money principles and required rate of return calculations for financial analysis using spreadsheets,
- Employ discounted cash flow concepts to value bonds and preferred and common stocks,
- Describe the measurements and implications of risk and return.
