Catalog Description

Introduction to fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence. Automation, agency, control, bias and transparency in human-AI interaction. Social and economic implications of AI technologies. Types of computational design methods and tools. Application and impact of LLMs, image generation and multimodal AI tools in design process and profession.

Course Objectives

This course aims to equip students with foundational literacy by introducing key concepts related to artificial intelligence. Students are encouraged to reflect on the professional, societal and ethical implications of AI technologies from a critical perspective. The course supports the development of practical skills in applying large language models (LLMs), media generation models, and AI-supported design tools to design tasks. Students actively explore diverse tools and practice integrating these into their design workflows. Throughout the course, students are guided to interpret the impact of AI technologies on contemporary and future roles within the design profession.
