Catalog Description
A detailed study of major theories in the area of autobiographical memory. Topics covered include functions of autobiographical memory, retrieval processes in autobiographical memory, memory and trauma, culture and autobiographical memory.
Course Objectives

This course aims to provide an overview of the theories and concepts related to autobiographical memory and psychopathology. The content of the course is designed to familiarize students with memory retrieveal in depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. The goal is to give students an understanding of the relationships among autobiographical memory, trauma, depression, identity and well-being.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

      1. Describe the basic theories and concepts in autobiographical memory.

2. Explain why some people remember more over-general memories than others.

3. Differentiate recall characteristics between traumatic and non-traumatic experiences.

4. Explain how self, identity and autobiographical memory are related in terms of psychological well-being.

5. Interpret research methods in these areas of autobiographical memory, and their role in theory building.
