Catalog Description
Theories and approaches on emotions and emotion regulation in intergroup relations (e.g., Intergroup Emotions Theory, Instrument Emotional Regulation); The role of discrete emotions (e.g., guilt, hatred, anger, shame, sadness), and positive emotions in intergroup conflict.
Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to provide an understanding of the role of emotional processes (e.g., intergroup emotions, emotion regulation, emotional preferences) in intergroup relations, intergroup conflict, and social justice. Discrete emotions and differente emotional processes will be introduced and their comparisons will be done. The knowledge of emotional processes will be applied to social problems.

By the end of this course, students are expected to

  1. understand the fundamentals of emotional processes in intergroup relations, including appraisals and action tendencies of emotions in intergroup relations.
  2. critically evaluate of various theoretical assumptions and research outcomes in emotions in intergroup relations and social justice.
  3. apply intergroup relations theories to explain social problems (e.g., intergroup conflict, collective inaction, social status differences in society)
  4. develop new research ideas on emotional processes
