Deniz Okay

Deniz Okay was born in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1991. She completed her high school education at St. George's Austrian High School in 2010. In 2015, she graduated from Middle East Technical University, Psychology Department with a BS degree, ranking first in her class. In the same year, she began her MS education in Clinical Psychology Program at Middle East Technical University and received her MS degree in 2017 with her thesis titled "The Psychological Impacts of Indirect Exposure to Ongoing Terrorist Attacks on a Group of Turkish University Students: A Qualitative Analysis". She has obtained her doctorate degree from METU Clinical Psychology PhD Program by presenting her dissertation titled "The Unbearable Heaviness of Nonbeing: The Path from Crisis of Meaning to Meaningfulness during Bereavement". Since 2016, she has been working at TEDU Department of Psychology.Her research interests are psychotraumatology, transgenerational transmission of cultural traumas, psychodynamic psychotherapies (self psychology), existential psychotherapy, loss and bereavement.
