He was born in Sandıklı, Afyonkarahisar in 1947. He received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Ankara in 1971. He completed PhD in philosophy with a dissertation titled “The Place of Logic in Edmund Husserl”  and also obtained a minor degree in Ancient Greek Language and Literature in 1980 at Istanbul University. The same year he started teaching philosophy and logic in Middle East Technical University.  He became a full professor in 1989. He retired in 2014 but continues teaching at various other universities besides his own. He has more than 800 articles and 30 books.

             His research interests include ethics, science, technology, literature and art. His studies on literary theory and criticism have been continuing since 1967. There is also a published novel alongside his poems and poetic essays.
