Cascading Risks and Disaster Resilience: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

TED University’s Pre-COP31 Events Series continues with the online panel “Cascading Risks and Disaster Resilience: An Interdisciplinary Perspective.” Organized by the TED University Sustainable Trade Research Center (TEDUsTRC), the panel will bring together leading international scholars and experts in disaster resilience, climate risk, disaster preparedness, urban planning, and governance.
The panel will be moderated by Nazire Nergiz Dincer, Professor of Economics at TED University, Director of the Sustainable Trade Research Center, and Project Coordinator of Beyond Epicenters.
As disasters become increasingly interconnected and their impacts extend far beyond directly affected areas, understanding cascading risks and strengthening resilience require perspectives that cut across disciplines, institutions, and geographies.
Bringing together expertise from economics, sociology, governance, urban planning, climate resilience, and disaster management, the discussion will explore how cascading risks emerge and how communities, cities, and institutions can build greater resilience in an increasingly complex risk environment.

The event also builds on TED University’s growing research agenda on systemic and cascading disaster risks, including Beyond Epicenters, an EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Staff Exchanges project coordinated by TED University.
