Hakan Ateş
Hakan Ateş was born in Ankara in 1959. He graduated from TED Ankara College in 1976 and Middle East Technical University (METU), Department of Business Administration in 1980.
He began his banking career as an Inspector at İşbank in 1981. Between 1985 and 1994, he held various roles at Interbank, including Branch Manager for the Bakırköy, İzmir, and Central Branches. He established Interbank’s Cash Management system and was appointed Assistant General Manager in charge of Central Operations in 1993.
Between December 1994 and January 1996, he served as Assistant General Manager for Financial Affairs and Operations at Bank Ekspres, a subsidiary of Doğuş Group. He also led the Bank’s restructuring project under the consultancy of Bank of America. Hakan Ateş established GarantiBank Moscow, a subsidiary of Garanti Bank, and served as its Founding General Manager from June 1996 for one and a half years.
In June 1997, he became the founding General Manager and Board Member of DenizBank. Over 27 years as CEO and Chairman of the Board of 14 subsidiaries, he guided DenizBank from 82nd to 5th place among private banks in Turkey. On December 31, 2024, he left DenizBank Financial Services Group and joined ENBD Bank, the owner of DenizBank shares.
