Catalog Description:
Approaches to use literature in foreign language teaching. Literary texts for foreign language teaching selection and evaluation. Short stories, novels, poems and plays from British and American literature. Literature for various proficiency levels. Literary texts analysis for linguistic features and content richness. Idiomatic expressions and proverbs. Expressions for cultural values, social structures, relationships and roles.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- identify the approaches to use literature in foreign language classroom,
- explain the cultural features, metaphorical expressions and idiomatic language in literary texts,
- use different literary genres for foreign language teaching,
- select suitable literary texts for learners with varying proficiencies,
- design instructional materials according to the characteristics of learners,
- evaluate individually prepared materials and those designed by their peers.
