Catalog Description
Materials in forming. Theory of plasticity. Materials characterization. Analysis methods. Bulk metal forming processes. Sheet metal forming processes. Forming and measuring equipment. Energy and resource efficient forming.
Course Objectives

Metallurgical fundamentals, bonds, dislocations and deformation mechanisms. Fundamental concepts from theory of plasticity, true strain and stress, yield criteria and flow rule. Analytical analysis methods, lower bound, upper bound and slab method. Basic bulk and sheet metal forming processes. Metal forming machinery classification and selection. Energy and resource efficency in forming.

Having completed this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe metal forming processes, related process parameters, machinery and tools. 2. Analyse bulk and sheet metal forming processes. 3. Identify typical problems in metal forming processes and recommend solutions
