Catalog Description
Human visual and perceptual systems. Visual stimuli and structure of the eye. Organization of human visual system. Lightness and darkness perception. Color perception. Perception of geometry. Distance and depth perception. Motion perception.
Course Objectives

This course aims to provide an overview of the problems that vision faces by using perception as a guide. The content of the course is designed to familiarize students with how the objects we see is generated by the visual system, what the main problem for vision is, and what visual perception tells us about how the brain works. The goal is to give students an understanding of how we perceive the physical world in a strange way and the goal of perception science is to understand why and how.  

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

1. Describe the history and methods used in the science of sensation and perception.

2. Identify the structure and organization of the visual system.

3. Differentiate between the transduction and transmission processes for the vision.

4. Explain how visual information is perceived and processed.

5. Interpret how perceptual information helps us in our lives.
