Catalog Description
The professional ethical laws in counseling area and general application standards. Client rights. Legal responsibilities of counselors. Legal problems. Multiculturalism and individual differences.
Course Objectives
This course aims to provide an overview of ethical issues counselors might face with throughout their professional life and learn about their legal responsibilities.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate knowledge of basic concepts, ethical principles and legal issues about ethics in guidance and counseling,
2. analyze the relationship between personal/cultural values, beliefs and ethical actions as professionals,
3. explain why racism, sexism, ageism, heterosexism, and other forms of stereotyping are ethical issues,
4. establish ethical and professional decision-making process in guidance and counseling,
5. argue the potential ethical dilemmas that counselors experience.
