Age and Age Identity; The Life Course Perspective; Portrayals of and Attitudes toward Aging; Demography of Aging; Caregiving and Intergenerational Ties; Support Networks and Health; Social Policies on Aging; Death and Dying.
Course Objectives

1. To inform students about current discussions around and theories on aging and the life course.

2. To have debates around current policies and implications on population aging as well as older people in the world and Turkey.

Course Learning Outcomes

1.         Recite basic conceptualization and theories in sociology of aging and life course,

2.         Embrace a critical perspective through an interdisciplinary understanding of various aspects of aging and later life,

3.         Describe in broad outlines the demographic changes as well as the changes in family life, support networks, health, and productivity with aging,

4.         Distinguish anecdotal understandings and portrayals of age, aging, and later life from more scientific and scholarly examinations on the subject,

5.         Relate the individual, interactional, structural, and historical factors shaping later life,

6.         Demonstrate a capacity to critically examine various social inequalities throughout the life course and particularly in later life.
