Catalog Description
Main media products such as print media, TV programs, computer games. The effects of media on child development. Role of teachers and parents on child’s media access and use. Appropriate examples of media products for early childhood period. Strategies to direct children and parents to the sophisticated use of the media.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to equip pre-service early childhood educators with the knowledge about main media products and effects of them on child development, to introduce role of teachers and parents on children's media access and use, to select the appropriate media tools for preschool children, to equip pre-service early childhood educators with the strategies for sophisticated use of media with young children.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

  1. identify main media products such as printed media, television programs, mobile apps, Internet platforms, computer games,
  2. describe the effects of digital media on children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development,
  3. interpret role of teachers and families on children's media access and use.
  4. select the appropriate examples of media products for early childhood period,
  5. develop strategies to direct children and parents to the sophisticated use of the media.
