Catalog Description
Definition of special education. Terms related to special education. Causes of disabilities. Importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Inclusion. Characteristics of inclusion. Types, characteristics, education of disabilities. Accommodation of children in inclusive settings. Parents of children with special needs. Special education programs and institutions in Turkey.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to convey the characteristics of special needs children, who have an important place in the field of education and how to support both the children in this group and their families.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

 

  1. analyze the progress and teaching practices of special education,
  2. debate the benefits of inclusion and the barriers to successful inclusion,
  3. summarize special education procedures applied to special education practice in schools,
  4. demonstrate understanding of the learning strengths and needs of students with disabilities,
  5. interpret legal and ethical issues in special education.
