Catalog Description
Definition of senses, perception, sense awareness, sensory play. Development of senses and perception and sensory systems. Importance of sensory education in child development. Learning environments for improving sense awareness. Materials supporting sensory development. Role of the teacher in sensory development.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to equip pre-service early childhood educators with the knowledge about senses, perception, sense awareness, sensory play, sensory systems development and to develop their skills to design sensory materials and environments that support young children’s sensory development.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

  1. identify senses, sensory systems, and sensory awareness,
  2. describe the development of senses in early childhood,
  3. relate sensory development with early childhood education by planning activities involving sensory play,
  4. organize learning environments that support sense awareness in early childhood,
  5. design materials that support sense awareness in early childhood.
