This course aims to support students to comprehend the definitions of the concept of drama and analyze its main characteristics. Students will identify among different types of drama such as psychodrama, creative drama, educational drama, sociodrama, etc. Besides, they will evaluate the relationship between drama and play. Students will further examine the concept of drama within the context of education and analyze the history of drama applications in education. Moreover, they will discuss the drama applications in education and apply the stages of drama in education. They will also evaluate the characteristics of appropriate learning environment for drama and the essential teacher competencies. Students will further discuss the assessment/evaluation techniques in drama. Lastly, students will examine exemplary drama activities in education, as well as develop and apply drama activities in education.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- discuss the main characteristics of the concept of drama,
- identify different types of drama,
- evaluate the relationship between drama and play,
- apply the stages of drama in education,
- describe the characteristics of appropriate learning environment for drama and the essential teacher competencies,
- develop assessment/evaluation techniques in drama.
