Catalog Description
Enriched language teaching activities for students who may not develop adequate reading, writing, speaking, listening, and visual literacy skills. Methods/techniques of literacy teaching for students whose mother tongue may be different. Methods/techniques of literacy teaching for students who might be from different socio-economic statuses with different levels of language readiness. Methods/techniques of literacy teaching for students who might not develop adequate language skills due to different factors in school and family (e.g., teacher change, adaptation problems, insufficient conditions at home, domestic violence). Turkish as a foreign/second language for immigrant students and pedagogical approaches, methods, techniques, and practices.
Course Objectives

This course aims to enable students to apply enriched language teaching activities for students who may not develop adequate reading, writing, speaking, listening, and visual literacy skills. It is designed to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes to apply effective methods/techniques and develop activities in literacy teaching for students whose mother tongue may be different. It also aims to enhance students’ academic growth in applying effective methods/techniques of literacy teaching for students who may not develop adequate language skills due to different factors (e.g., teacher change, adaptation problems, insufficient conditions at home, domestic violence). Lastly, the course also aims to support students to apply effective methods/techniques for teaching Turkish as a foreign/second language to immigrant students and discuss appropriate pedagogical approaches, methods, techniques, and practices.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  3. apply effective methods/techniques of literacy teaching for students whose mother tongue may be different,
  4. develop effective methods/techniques of literacy teaching for students who may not develop adequate language skills due to different factors.
  5. utilize effective methods/techniques for teaching Turkish as a foreign/second language to immigrant students.
