Selected texts and critical analysis. Specific information in selected texts. Texts that present different arguments. Original written texts in various genres.
Course Objectives
This course is designed to teach students how to analyze and summarize selected written texts, and how to synthesize information from different reading resources to create their own original academic texts in various genres. The course is also designed to improve upon students’ standard reading skills, while concurrently developing their higher order critical thinking skills.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- identify the structure of arguments in the reading texts,
- critically analyze selected written texts to create their own summaries and reports,
- evaluate the validity and soundness of arguments in the readings and in their own compositions,
- synthesize information from different reading resources to create original academic writings,
- employ writing strategies including causal analysis, advocacy of ideas, persuasion, evaluation, refutation, interpretation, and definition.
