Catalog Description
Early foreign language instruction. Differences across young learner profiles. Developmental stages of very young learners. Young learner styles (intelligences). Activities for very/young learners (games, songs, arts & craft). Related methods and technique selection. Storytelling. Storybooks for young language learners. Classroom management techniques for young learners. Contextualization language learning and theme-based, content-based language learning.
Course Objectives

This course aims to identify characteristics of very young and young learners. The course provides hands-on learning experiences with an integration of theories on teaching languages to young learners and practice activities for young learners. The course is designed to provide discussion points on managing young learner classrooms, listing characteristics of storybooks and telling how they provide a context for language learning, demonstrating examples of drama and storytelling in young learners’ classes.
