Catalog Description
Theory and principles of ELT material design. Relationship between material design and the current ELT methodology. Selection and adaptation of materials (including online) for EFL setting. Materials and coursebooks analyses and evaluation used in EFL settings. Genuine material development for EFL settings.
Course Objectives

This course aims to introduce the theory and principles of material design in ELT. It presents the relationship between the current ELT methodology and materials to be employed in EFL classrooms. This course also enables students to work on the materials (including online) and coursebooks used in EFL settings in order to analyze, evaluate and adapt them. Based on the theory and principles they attain, students will be able to select appropriate materials and develop their own materials to be used in EFL settings in accordance with the needs of learners.

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

  1. identify theories and principles of material design,
  2. discuss the relationship between the theories and principles of materials design and contemporary ELT methodologies,
  3. examine the materials used in EFL settings in line with the needs and goals of learners,
  4. develop materials according to the needs and current level of learners,
  5. evaluate coursebooks and materials (including online) according to the specific needs of learners and the school environment.
