Catalog Description
The concept of design. Types of design (product, service, business...). Need for design thinking. Introduction to design thinking. Design thinking in mathematics education context. Steps of design thinking (problem identification, empathizing, ideating, co-creating, multi- faceted solutions to problems, prototyping, tangible, and implementable solutions that have a reasonable chance for sustainability, testing, skill building and dissemination).
Course Objectives

This course aims to provide students with an awareness of design thinking and co-design for the problems in mathematics education.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. identify the necessary skill sets and mindset to practice design thinking,
2. recognize the fundamentals of the theory of design thinking,
3. identify problem for design related to mathematics education,
4. collect data on the needs and values of the community regarding the problem for design,
5. collaborate with other students on the problem for design related to mathematics education.
