Catalog Description
Mathematics teaching programs and curriculum frameworks used in different countries. Teaching and assessment methods adopted in different countries. The development of school mathematics in the world and Turkey. Large-scale international studies (TIMMS, PISA, etc.) and factors affecting the performance of Turkish students in these studies. Analysis of mathematics education practices in Turkey from school mathematics perspective in the world.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to enable students to have information about approaches and practices related to mathematics teaching in different countries, to increase their awareness of the results of international evaluations, and to make them reflect on how good practice examples can be transferred to their own practice.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. investigate the basic features and contents of teaching programs and curriculum frameworks in different countries,
2. discuss teaching and assessment methods in mathematics that are adopted in different countries,
3. analyze the results of large-scale international studies from a mathematics performance perspective,
4. collaborate on the factors affecting students' performance in mathematics in the light of the international benchmarking studies results,
5. analyze the mathematics education practices in Turkey by reflecting on school mathematics perspectives in the world.
