Comparative study and analysis of the periods and trends in British drama before the 1900s. Medieval drama (mystery plays, miracle plays, morality plays), Renaissance drama excluding Shakespeare (revenge tragedy, comedy of humours), 17th and 18th century drama (Restoration comedy of manners, sentimental comedy, domestic tragedy), Gothic drama and Victorian drama (Victorian comedy of manners, Ibsenite realism).
