Course Objectives

The course analyses space not only as an architectural product but also as an ideological component. Besides ideology, the concepts of power and politics are taken into account. The course derives its references from different perspectives of various disciplines, such as philosophy, sociology, political science, history, and geography. By reading texts from Foucault, Lefebvre, Harvey, Jameson, Davis and others, the course open discussions on space from the outside of the boundaries of architecture. A broad insight of space and society can generate from a critical mind and critical thought which are necessary not only in architectural theory and history but also in design.
