Catalog Description
Introduction to sustainability in construction. Green buildings. Ecological design. Green building evaluation and certification systems. Design process of green buildings. Green construction operations. Green buildings economics. Case studies with recent technology.
Course Objectives

Main aim of this course is to provide the background information to how and why green buildings came about, together with state-of-the-art tools and techniques used for green construction. Global environmental metrics will be presented and discussed for this purpose.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe climate change and its impacts on the built environment,
  2. Distinguish renewable energy technologies in terms of their advantages and shortcomings,
  3. Relate the role of civil engineering to sustainable infrastructure,
  4. Examine the built environment with its economic and societal implications,
  5. Discuss prevalent techniques and technologies in green building construction.
