Catalog Description
German political structure and foreign policy in 20th century. Weimar Republic, the birth and evolution of fascism. Post World War II - East and West division. Re-unification process. Foreign affairs.
Course Objectives
The major objective of this course is to provide a basic understanding of German politics and its role in the international arena.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. Describe different phases of the historical evolution of modern Germany
2. Recite the Weimar Republic and critically evaluate the birth and growth of fascism
3. Compare German politics during and after the Nazi regime
4. Explain German politics and foreign policy after the end of the Second World War
5. Depict the division and the reunification process
6. Evaluate the change from “Bonn Republic” to “Berlin Republic”
7. Portray and assess German politics and foreign policy after the end of the Cold War
8. Discuss “continuity” and “change” in German politics and foreign policy
