Catalog Description
Human body and growth. Child diseases and protection methods. Child safety. First aid. Child nutrition. Health and hygiene rules for food preparation. Teaching health, safety and nutrition to young children. Provision of safe, nutritious, and healthy environments for young children.
Course Objectives

The main aim of this course is to convey the importance of health, nutrition, safe environments and protection from diseases for children.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. demonstrate knowledge of young children’s health, safety, and nutrition
2. identify common communicable illnesses
3. categorize nutrients that provide energy, promote growth, regulate body functions
4. compare the interrelated roles of the home, school, and community in meeting the health and safety needs of the young child
5. evaluate early childhood learning environments in regards to health and safety issues
6. plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children in the areas of health, nutrition and safety
