Overview of the visual arts as transmitters of cultural, humanistic and aesthetic values, painting, photography and film, architecture and the third dimension, music, literature, performance, popular art and everyday aesthetics, classic sources, contemporary sources
Course Objectives

The course aims to render freshmen students from all disciplines conscious of their sensory perception regarding, primarily, bodily reactions to the environment and regarding environmental qualities. In this respect, the familiarity and understanding of art and aesthetics will play an important role. Focusing on visual art (painting, sculpture, building and industrial design, and the urban environment) different cultural forms will be introduced to deepen a comprehensive aesthetic sensitivity. Through short lectures, discussions and design/art exercises students will be familiarized with the world of art and aesthetics.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. understand his experiences and perception of art, to interpret and evaluate art and cultural forms, to develop an aesthetic sensitivity, and be creative with forms in various visual, auditory, kina aesthetic sensory modes, be more perceptive of environmental, urban, architectural qualities.
