Catalog Description

Historical evolution of humanity from the Renaissance period up to the post-Cold War period. Developing a particular consciousness about human history in terms of the development of the nation state, economic systems, technologic inventions, cultural productions and political developments.

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to deal with the historical evolution of human societies from the discovery of the Americas in the late 15th century to the present day. The course aims to develop a particular consciousness about the emergence of modern world in terms of the development and transformation of civilizations, economic systems, technological inventions, gender, social changes, cultural productions and political developments.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. Gain strategic and abstract thinking skills, enhance “social empathy” and become more efficient in social relations.
2. Developing a particular consciousness about the emergence of modern world in terms of the development and transformation of civilizations, economic systems, technological inventions, gender, social changes, cultural productions and political developments.
3. Refer to history for thinking and even finding effective solutions to the complex problems of our contemporary world.
4. Develop the ability to associate the seemingly irrelevant issues in social and political life.
5. Develop complex argumentation skills in speech and writing.
