Catalog Description
Fundamentals of manufacturing technologies with a special emphasis on manufacturing of metallic parts. Casting, metal forming and metal cutting processes. Manufacturing processes for non-metallic materials and micro-electronics. Economic process design considerations. Material selection for manufacturing. Manufacturing automation.
Course Objectives

Physical properties of materials and metrology, identification of manufacturing processes (casting, forming, cutting, welding, etc),  manufacturing methods for metallic materials and non-metallic materials, assessment of manufacturing operations from economical and product design aspects, computer aided manufacturing concept, modern automation and handling systems, engineering metrology and quality assurance

Course Learning Outcomes
  • develop knowledge in material science, physical properties of materials and metrology
  • identify manufacturing processes (casting, forming, cutting, welding, etc)
  • be familiar with manufacturing methods for metallic materials and non-metallic materials,
  • assess different manufacturing operations from economical and product design aspects and be familiar with computer aided manufacturing 
  • acquire knowledge about modern automation and handling systems
  • be familiar with engineering metrology and quality assurance
