Catalog Description
Introduction to sustainability and the role of civil engineering towards the solution of global problems. Green buildings, their evaluation and certification systems, design processes, and economics. Case studies with current technologies.
Course Objectives

The objective of this course is for students to gain a broad perspective on global sustainability issues and the role of civil engineering towards the solution of such problems. 

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify the status of the global environment;

2. Explain the influence of environmental phenomenon on economic and societal events;

3. Report on pressing issues of our times and how they relate to engineering

4. Analyze prevalent techniques and technologies in green building construction

5. Examine civil engineering projects through life cycle thinking
