Catalog Description
The mythical journey of the hero. The road as a metaphor for life. Archetypal pattern in examples of literature and film. Change, metamorphosis and the formation of identity, culture and memory.
Course Objectives

The main objectives of the course are to familiarize students with the main concepts surrounding the mythical journey of the heroand provide students with an enhanced understanding of theories concerning the formation of identity, culture and memoryin examples of literature and film. 

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon the conclusion of the course students will be able to:

1.Identify the concepts of the hero’s journey, identity, culture, and memory in a range of selected texts,

2.Utilize literary theories to explore the metaphor of journey as a narrative device in selected texts,

3.Compare the portrayals of heroes and journeys in the works of literature selected from different literary traditions.
