Catalog Description
Positive and negative fictional portrayals of societies. Study of examples of utopias and dystopias within the framework of their historical context and modern viewpoints, from the social and philosophical point of view.
Course Objectives
This course provides students with an introduction to the literature of utopia and dystopia, exploring its theoretical, practical, aesthetic, and generic dimensions.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon the conclusion of the course, students will be able to
1.Identify diverse utopian and dystopian traditions in Western tradition,
2.Analyze the form and content of the selected utopian and dystopian texts,
3.Evaluate philosophical themes in the selected utopian and dystopian texts.
