Catalog Description
Principles and definition of early childhood, foundations and historical development of early childhood education. Early childhood education across nations and in Turkey. Needs and developmental characteristics of children. Early childhood teacher characteristics. Types of early childhood institutions (kindergarten, preschool, etc.). Physical, social and educational environment characteristics. The role and the importance of families in early childhood.
Course Objectives

The course aims to explain central goals and bases of early childhood
education, teacher, institution characteristics and some current issues
specific to early childhood period.

Upon successful completion of this course, a
student will be able to;

1.describe fundamental concepts of and facts about the field of early childhood education

2. identify the characteristics, roles, and dispositions of effective early childhood teachers

3. evaluate programs and services delivered to young children and their families.

4. compare the characteristics and needs of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners

5. plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children

6. discuss current issues and trends in early childhood education relative to Turkey and within the context of a global society
