Catalog Description
Basic concepts of and history of spiritual counseling; theories of psychological counseling and spirituality; cultural foundations of spiritual counseling; religious traditions, beliefs and spiritual counseling; competencies of spiritual counselling; measurement in spiritual counselling; techniques of spiritual counseling; institutional spiritual counselling; fields of application of spiritual counselling; ethics in spiritual counselling.
Course Objectives

Incorporating spirituality in counseling. Concepts of religion and spirituality. The role and the use of religious beliefs and spirituality in helping process. 

Course Learning Outcomes

1. identify  the role of spirituality in counseling,

2. distinguish spirituality and religiosity,

3. identify  the spiritual needs of clients on the basis of their presenting problems, culture, nationality, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, education, SES, disability, and spiritual or religious affiliation,

4. identify  the relationship of spirituality with some concepts such as grief, emotion regulation, mindfulness, well-being, and forgiveness

5. identify  how to assist clients in their moral and identity development.
