Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Understand the fundamental concepts and procedures related to scientific research in behavioral area.

2. Understand, identify, and discriminate between different types of inference frequently made in psychological research (frequency, association, and causal claims).

3. Understand, identify, and discriminate among different types of validity (i.e., construct, internal, external, and statistical validity) and apply these concepts to assess various claims.

4. Identify factors that influence the reliability, generalizability, and replicability of behavioral research.

5. Identify and apply ethical guidelines to behavioral research. Recognize when ethical principles have been violated and know how to take action in such circumstances.

6. Search literature using PsycINFO, Pubmed, Scopus, and other literature search engines, and using scientific writing style (e.g., APA, IEEE) to write and cite research papers.

7. Critically evaluate evidence and claims arising in the behavioral sciences and the popular press. 8. Develop their skills in scientific communication.
