The course aims to introduce students with skills, degree of involvement and modes of critical thinking on understanding the built environment. With focus on verbal narration, the course requires creative involvement of the student on conception of the levels of analyzing the built environment with its intrinsic components, in their physical, historic, practical, discursive contexts. The purpose is to equip the student with a proper, sensitive, inquisitive and learned background, in understanding, reflecting, contextualizing positions about the built environment.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to
1) Understand the role of reading/writing about architecture in the concrete making of architecture, and that the process is part of architecture,
2) Be equipped with skills for understanding texts; writing genuine and original ones with emphasis on the production of sincere statements,
3) Develop a background of architectural literature in connection with the use of architectural objects and language,
4) Grasp the concrete steps of production of the built environment; in connection with its reception, and concurrent thematic and problematic terminologies,
5) Develop a sense about the ethics of reading and writing about architecture.
