Catalog Description
Relations of architectural research to architectural history and cultural studies. Architectural design and popular culture. Research design and historiography methodologies. Comparative studies of cultural history, cultural studies, and architectural history of the modern age. 20th century case studies and methodology on 20th century studies.
Course Objectives

The course aims to provide a comparative experience of architectural research, architectural history, and cultural studies with an emphasis on the discussion of relevant methodologies and case studies. 

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Review the methodological debate on architectural history and cultural studies,

2. Interpret the development of architectural ideas in the context of the cultural history of the 20th century,

3. Relate social and cultural research to processes of architectural design,

4. Evaluate universal and local qualities in the cultural reception of architectural ideas in the modern age, 

5. Design a research task with comparative methods on a specific case.
