Catalog Description
Instruction set and architecture of a computer. Branching and procedure calls. Addressing modes. Single-cycle processor datapath. Single cycle control. Pipelining. Pipeline hazards and forwarding. Performance. Advanced micro-architectures. Memory system performance and memory hierarchy. Virtual memory and Paging. Memory mapped Input/Output. Parallel and serial Input/Output devices.
Course Objectives

This course aims to provide an insight into computer organization by understanding the architecture of a processor and memory management  along with advanced micro-architectures.  

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to;

  1. Write programs in assembly language,
  2. Assess the computer architecture and instruction execution process,
  3. Design single-cylcle and pipelined processors,
  4. Test the designed single-cycle and pipelined processors,
  5. Recognize low level memory and ı/o control,
  6. Evaluate the performance of the processors and the memory.
