Catalog Description
Basic principles of environmental education. The importance of environmental education. Historical roots of environmental education. Environmental education in early childhood period. Education for sustainable development in early childhood education. Play-based environmental education. Plan environmental education activities for children in early childhood and the practices of environmental education (living creatures in the nature, plants, air, soil, water, recycling, energy saving, environmental pollution, natural disasters, etc.)
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to help teacher candidates develop a comprehensive understanding of environmental education in early childhood period. To this end, students are expected to build knowledge on the essential definitions and concepts of environmental education. Students are also required to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and values for effective planning of instruction in environmental education, identifying the essential instructional methods, different assessment and evaluation techniques for teaching environmental education. Students will plan and implement developmentally appropriate environmental education activities in the light of the national early childhood education program.

  3. identify different instructional methods and techniques for teaching used in environmental education for children in early childhood period,
  4. design environmental education activities that are developmentally appropriate for children in early childhood period,
  5. implement environmental education activities that are developmentally
