The aim of this course is to help teacher candidates develop a comprehensive understanding of environmental education in early childhood period. To this end, students are expected to build knowledge on the essential definitions and concepts of environmental education. Students are also required to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and values for effective planning of instruction in environmental education, identifying the essential instructional methods, different assessment and evaluation techniques for teaching environmental education. Students will plan and implement developmentally appropriate environmental education activities in the light of the national early childhood education program.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- describe basic principles and definitions of environmental education,
- identify roots of environmental education in national and international contexts,
- identify different instructional methods and techniques for teaching used in environmental education for children in early childhood period,
- design environmental education activities that are developmentally appropriate for children in early childhood period,
- implement environmental education activities that are developmentally
