Catalog Description
Algorithmic thinking skills in early childhood. Terminology used to introduce coding to young children. Strategies for building coding skills of young children. Scratch Jr projects to integrate coding in early childhood education.
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to equip pre-service early childhood educators with the knowledge about algorithmic thinking, terminology of coding in early childhood and the strategies for building coding skills of young children using Scratch Jr programming interface.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- identify algorithmic thinking skills in early childhood,
- recognize the terminology used to introduce coding to young children,
- develop strategies for building coding skills of young children with unplugged activities,
- execute plugged coding activities appropriate for young children using Scratch Jr programming interface,
5. design Scratch Jr projects for various purposes that integrate coding with early childhood education.
