Catalog Description
The aim and basic principles of mathematics teaching. National primary school mathematics curriculum. NCTM and Common Core State Standards. Learning areas and sub-learning areas. Mathematical process standards- problem solving, reasoning, communication, connections, representations. Major learning theories and their implications for teaching mathematics. Assessment and evaluation in mathematics education. Development of the mathematical concepts in primary school mathematics curriculum including early number concepts, number sense, arithmetical operations, whole numbers, place value.
Course Objectives
The main objective of this course is to provide students understanding of what it means to know and do mathematics and developing skills in teaching mathematical concepts in primary school curriculum including early number concepts, number sense, arithmetical operations, whole numbers, place value.
