Catalog Description

Definition and characteristics of museum. Exhibition in museums. Museum education. Methods in museum education. Learning in a museum. Types of museum. Development of Turkish museology. A general overview of the history of museology in the world. The relationship between museum, art, culture, and civilization. Museum and art education. Museum and society. The contribution of museums to historical awareness. Protecting historical artifacts. Modern museology in the world and Turkey.

Course Objectives

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge of the place and the importance of museum education and the development of Turkish and world museology.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

1. explain the definition and the characteristics of museum,
2. apply the appropriate museum education teaching and learning strategies,
3. summarize the development of Turkish museology and museology in the world,
4. interpret the relationship between museum, art, culture and civilization,
5. compare modern museology in the world and Turkey in terms of teaching activities in primary education,
6. design lesson plans for museum education.
